Look, Layout & Aesthetic

I’ve always believed in the saying, “you’re only given once chance to make a great first impression”. Whether that’s in a relationship, job interview or something else, this saying is true when it comes to creating your website as well. What people see first is what they are going to be drawn to, so it is so important to make a great first impression with your website look, layout & aesthetic. First and foremost, it should be simple with a consistent and thoughtful design throughout the website. You want users to have an easy journey through your site and if things are messy and all over the place—they will simply abandon your site and not come back. Design and layout are key as well especially when it comes to optimizing for mobile and desktop. Mobile accounts for nearly half of the traffic on the web worldwide so it is important to make sure your site is user friendly both on mobile and on desktop.

Marketing & Promotion

Next is the marketing and promotion of your site or actions you want users to take on your site. You want to make sure you have easy to find CTAs so that there is no confusion for the end user while they navigate your site. You also want to make sure you have clear and concise marketing of your site to generate leads from other websites as well. This can be in the form of banners, targeted ads and pop-up notifications while people are browsing the internet. Word of mouth marketing goes a long way when it comes to making people fall in love with your site and by creating buzz through various marketing outlets, people will hear about your site, and you will see traffic increase. And lastly, making sure you have an easy way for people to contact your site—whether that’s via chat, feedback, email address or phone number—people appreciate when they are able to get in touch with a site quickly and easily so adding those options make your site more appealing as well. Compelling Content

Content is king. This is true when it comes to your website, and perhaps might be one of the top reasons why people fall in love with it. Users want content that draws them in, content that is focused and useful. Plan out your content so that you know what you are going to have on your website and when so you can test what content was interacted with across various timeframes. Keep content fresh by continuously updating it and making it applicable to your end user. People love when they see new content on a site, it keeps them coming back for more.

Improve & Enhance with Data

Along with updating content, updates to your site from a performance and overall improvement standpoint are what will get people coming back and using your site as well. You should audit your site regularly and make continuous improvements based off data and user feedback. Users always appreciate it when they are heard so make sure you regularly take their feedback and try and implement suggestions that they might have to make your site better.

Fast & Furious

And finally, a fast site is always the best site. People don’t want to be waiting for the page to load or the cart purchase to be slow, they want fast load times and things to be quick. If the perceived web performance is slow, users won’t come back and give you second chance.

Your website should be what you want it to be, but also give your users what they want. By following a few of these suggestions—your website will hopefully accomplish both of these things and keep users coming back. There are a number of user behavior analytics tools out there that can help with getting people to fall in love with your website.
